Abstract

In the study, it was aimed to examine the secondary education 9th grade history textbook of 2024 in terms of historical importance. In this direction, the research was conducted as a qualitative study in descriptive survey model. In the study, document analysis was used as data collection tools and the data were collected from the secondary education 9th grade history textbook published by the Ministry of National Education in 2024. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. In this context, the textbook was analyzed in terms of contemporary significance, causal significance, modeling significance, symbolic significance, present significance and explanatory significance and evaluated according to the types of significance. When the results of the research are analyzed, it is determined that activities related to the concepts of historical significance are included in each unit of the 9th grade history textbook. However, it was determined that there were relatively few activities related to historical significance in the overall activities in the units.  In this context, it can be suggested to increase the number of activities related to historical importance in the history textbook and to reveal the situation in other history textbooks.
